Company Profile
S333 is an award-winning architectural and urban design company with an international reputation for delivering innovative mixed-use buildings and urban environments.
A Dutch Perspective
S333 was founded in 1997 in the Netherlands, where it flourished in an environment that fostered creativity and encouraged a collaborative approach to urban development.
S333 Today
Founding partners Dominic Papa and Jonathan Woodroffe lead the practice. Their commitment to delivering design solutions that resolve not only the architectural concerns but also the wider planning, environmental and infrastructural issues is shared by a multinational team of architects and urban designers based in London. S333 is currently working on a range of urban and architectural projects in Europe and Asia.
A Holistic Approach to Design
S333's design philosophy - "Architecture at an Urban Scale and Urban Design at an Architectural Scale" - reflects the studio's conviction to embrace the multiplicity of urban scales in the design and reasoning of all projects. With this approach, S333 delivers urban solutions to masterplans and building commissions that bring added value to the built environment - socially, economically and environmentally.
Exhibitions
S333's projects have been the focus of various exhibitions. In 2007 the studio's first solo exhibition 'On the Urban Designing of Architecture' was shown at La Galerie in Paris, DAZ in Berlin and the NLA in London. Most recently, S333's work was exhibited in the 'Futuros de la Vivienda Social en 7 Ciudades' in Madrid in 2010.
Awards
S333 has won numerous awards and competitions. In 2003 the studio's first completed project, a mixed-use housing project in Groningen was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. In 2009 S333's Tarling Regeneration in London was the UK's first social housing scheme to be nominated for the RIBA Manser Award.
